this small wheel-thrown dish is made from light stoneware high-fire clay and features an imprinted laceleaf maple. the leaf was pressed into the clay, then both the leaf and the interior were brushed with a blue mason-stain porcelain slip. once the slip dried, the leaf was carefully peeled away, revealing the pale clay beneath in a crisp, detailed silhouette.
i love how the fine tips of the leaf reach up the walls of the dish — a subtle bit of movement that gives the piece a lively, organic feel. everything is finished in a clear glaze that deepens the blue and highlights the leaf’s delicate edges.
