this wheel-thrown mug is made from a blend of high-fire porcelain/stoneware clay. it’s glazed in a rich red and fired in a gas reduction kiln. during the firing, areas of oxidation occurred, which is why the glaze softens and breaks into pale green tones in places. those lighter areas aren’t added color — they’re the result of the kiln atmosphere interacting with the glaze and clay body, creating natural variation and subtle surface crackle where the glaze thins.
the interior is glazed to a smooth, glossy finish, while the exterior shows layered shifts from deep wine-red to pale green with gentle texture. each mug responds slightly differently in the kiln, making the color transitions one of a kind.
the form has a steady, grounded base that tapers into a hidden foot, keeping the silhouette visually light while remaining stable in use. the pulled handle includes a small thumb rest at the top, offering a natural place for your thumb to settle and a comfortable grip across different hand shapes.
