this mug is made of dark high-fire stoneware clay. it is glazed inside and partially outside with bright white. the base is glazed in shiny black and, due to an uneven dip, one side has a narrow line where the two glazes didn’t meet, while the other side shows a band of rich inky blue where the black overlapped the white. i’m in love with these little quirks and “imperfections” that the glaze process can create.
now for the little design detail that makes this mug extra thoughtful: the area beneath the handle is gently indented inward, giving a bit more room for your hand and making the grip feel naturally steady. the handle itself is shaped just a touch wider than standard, which adds an easy, comfortable hold without calling attention to itself.
