this wheel-thrown mug is made of high-fire dark stoneware clay. i was in an experimental mood here — the mug keeps a familiar silhouette, but the surface gets wild with layered textures and angled cuts. different tools carved shallow and deep lines in shifting directions, making permanent a moment of catharsis. once fired, the mug was stained with black iron oxide and finished in bright white glaze, adding contrast that highlights every ridge and sweep.
the handle has a gentle thumb rest, and there’s a small pierced opening where the handle meets the body — an intentional little detail added during shaping. the mug settles into a wider base that tapers to a small, trimmed foot, giving it stable contact with the table while keeping the overall form visually light. this mug feels earthy, expressive, and full of motion.
