this wheel-thrown mug is made from a high-fire porcelain/stoneware blend and finished in a clear glaze, letting the bright white clay body stay the star. a real fern frond was pressed into the leather-hard clay, then coated with a blue mason–stained slip. once the slip dried, the fern was carefully peeled away, leaving its delicate impression and that soft, watercolor-like blue halo that gives this series its gentle, wild-botanical feel.
