this wheel-thrown mug is made of dark red stoneware clay. the exterior of the mug is bisected with textured chattering that evokes the earthy feel of bark on a tree, the mug is glazed in satin white inside and on the exterior save the band of raw clay in the middle. aside from the texture, what catches the eye is how the glaze breaks thin on the handle, getting russet colored on the edges of the handle. the thinning coat of glaze on the exterior changes the coloring from a soft white into a toasty amber color and softens the texture about midway down the wall of the mug.
