this wheel-thrown holder is made of high-fire dark stoneware clay and finished in rutile blue with a soft rim dip of satin black. the two cutouts are designed to hold a sponge or bar soap upright so it can dry fully between uses, keeping things fresher and tidier on the counter.
the saucer and holder are thrown as one piece, and the variations in the glaze — from the mottled blues to the darker breaking along the rims — give this piece its quiet depth. and, because i never like to limit the potential of anything, this works beautifully as a napkin holder or even to hold coffee filters.
