this wheel-thrown mug is made of high-fire porcelain/stoneware mixed clay. the mug interior is glazed in bright white while the outside is glazed in rutile blue with a rim dip in mellow yellow. the wavering line of yellow meeting blue evokes a sandy beach and gently moving surf. i adore the pops of blues, purples, pink, and white in the rutile and the golden toastiness of the yellow.
let’s talk about this unique design! originating from feedback received at markets, some mugs have been adjusted to be more accessible for people with large hands, strength or dexterity issues. underneath the handle, the clay wall is indented inward slightly, giving extra room for the knuckles, providing a more comfortable and steadying grip.
