delicate beauty!
this wheel-thrown bowl is made of white stoneware clay and glazed in a soft, pale celadon. the exterior was chattered while the clay was still leather-hard — cut back with a hacksaw blade at high speed to create that lively, rippling texture. once fired, i glazed the piece and then gently sponged the surface so the glaze would break over those ridges and reveal touches of bare clay beneath. the speckling throughout comes from iron in the clay and adds an earthy warmth that feels so grounding.
the form has a gentle curve and a low, open profile that’s easy to scoop from and easy to see into. it’s lovely for roasted vegetables, pasta, grainy dinners, or any cozy one-bowl meal. what i love about this bowl, in addition to the texture and gentle curving of the walls is how the base disappears just enough to make the bowl seem to float.
